みなさま、こんにちは。サリーです。

毎年1月は、レッスンがお休みですので、新年のご挨拶はいつも遅れてしまいますが、昨年は寒い日、暑い日、雨の日と関係なく、レッスンに付き合っていただき、本当にありがとうございます！今年も多彩なレッスンを企画していますので、 どうぞよろしくお願いします！

 さて、春が待ち遠しい2月。幼い頃には、母国のイギリスの南の方でも雪がよく降っていた記憶がありますが、球根たちが頑張って雪の中から徐々に顔を出して、春の気配を感じさせてくれました。

今回のレッスンは、 春の花の甘い香りを楽しみながら、ほんのりピンクに染まった銀の世界を表現した、可愛らしい花束を作ります。スパイラル（らせん状）に束ねた花を、大きな葉でナチュラルに包みます。仕上げに、アルミワイヤーなどで飾りつけていきます。

そのまま飾っていただけるプチブーケです。ご自宅で楽しんでいただくのはもちろん、ギフトとしても喜ばれると思いますよ。

As there are no lessons in January, I am afraid that I am always a little late to wish you all a Happy New Year, however let me take this opportunity to thank you all for coming to my lessons last year come rain or shine. I have a wide variety of lessons in the works for this year as well, so I look forward to welcoming you!

February is that time of year when I really look forward to spring. As a kid I remember lots of snow falling even in the south of England at this time of year but the bulbs gradually push their heads up through the snow reminding us that it will soon be spring.

For this lesson, we will enjoy the sweet scents of spring flowers as we make a charming bouquet inspired by a snowy world warmed with just a hint of pink. We’ll assemble the flowers in a spiral and wrap them naturally in a large leaf before adding finishing touches with aluminium wire.

This posy can be enjoyed ‘as is’. Of course, it can be enjoyed in your home, but I’m sure it would also be really appreciated as a gift!

「Yule Log」

〜 香りのいいグリーンと実ものたっぷりの、ブッシュ・ド・ノエル風豪華なクリスマスドア飾り 〜

みなさま、こんにちは。サリーです。
 

今までのクリスマス飾りのレッスンは、12月に入ってから行ってきましたが、今年はお正月飾りも是非ご提案したいと考えて、クリスマスのレッスンを今月に変更させていただきました。

「ブッシュ・ド・ノエル」という、丸太の形をしているクリスマスケーキを食べたことがある方は多いと思いますが、そのルーツをご存知でしょうか。中世イギリスやヨーロッパの、Yule log（ユール・ログ）と呼ばれる 丸太を常緑樹の葉で飾り、お酒をかけて、12月24日〜1月5日の間、暖炉で焼く習慣に由来します。途中で火が消えなければ、1年間幸せに過ごせると信じられていました。

このユール・ログにちなんだ、今年流行りの ナチュラル系の色合いのドア飾りと一緒にクリスマスを迎えてみませんか。 爽やかな森の香りを楽しみながら、様々なヒバや実ものをガーランドにまとめて、白樺の丸太に見立てたベースに取り付けていきます。リボンや小さなベルを加えて、豪華に仕上げましょう。

このクリスマス飾りはドライにもなりますので、長くお楽しみいただけます。

In previous years, we’ve held the Xmas arrangement lesson in December, but this year we’ve brought it forward to this month in order to offer a New Year arrangement class in December.

I expect there are many of you that have eaten the traditional Yule log cake, or bouche de Noel, but I wonder if you are aware of its origins? In medieval times, it was customary in the UK and Europe to decorate a log, known as a Yule log, with evergreens, douse it with wine or spirits and burn it in the fireplace between 24th December and 5th January.  If the flame did not go out, it was believed that this would protect the family from misfortune throughout the coming year. 

So why not get ready for Xmas and decorate your door with a Yule log in this year’s trendy natural colour tones? We’ll make a garland using various types of cypress and seasonal berries, all the while taking in the refreshing fragrance of the evergreens, and then attach to a base resembling a silver birch log. Ribbon and tiny bells add a gorgeous finishing touch.

This decoration can be enjoyed both fresh and as it dries over time.

「Witches’ Brew」
 

〜 魔女の鍋に作るキモ可愛いハロウィーンアレンジメント 〜

みなさま、こんにちは。サリーです。

街のあちらこちらにかぼちゃが急に増えてきた気がしますが、そろそろハロウィーンですね。

ハロウィーンといえば、真っ先に思い浮かぶのは、やはりかぼちゃ、仮装、トリック・オア・トリートでお菓子をもらうことですかね。母国のイギリスでは、それらに加えて、魔女が大きな黒い鍋に様々な恐ろしいものを入れて調合する醸造物（秘薬、witches’ brew）も象徴的な存在です。それにちなんだ飲み物や食べ物も大人気です。

…というわけで、今回のレッスンは、魔法使いサリーと一緒に作る、キモ可愛い、特性の witches’ brewアレンジメントにしたいと思います！

みなさまも、魔女になったつもりで、鍋を見立てた器に雰囲気の異なる紫、オレンジ、グリーンの花や野菜を挿して、 四方見のアレンジメントを作りましょう。飴、手作りクモとクモの巣も足して、楽しく仕上げていきます。

大人でも子供でも楽しんでいただけるアレンジメントですので、親子でのご参加も大歓迎です。

It seems the town is suddenly full of pumpkins, reminding us that it is almost Hallowe’en again. When you hear Hallowe’en, I guess the first things that automatically pop up in your mind are pumpkins, fancy dress costumes, and the trick-or-treat custom of receiving sweets. Back in my home country, England, another typical symbol that comes to mind is the witches’ brew of various nasty things stewed up in a large black cauldron.

With that in mind, for this lesson, we’ll make a creepy but cute witches’ brew arrangement. So why not come along in your witches’ best and create your own all-round arrangement in a container resembling a cauldron using purple, orange and green flowers and vegetables in various shapes and sizes. Fun finishing touches include sweets, handmade spiders and spiders’ webs.

This arrangement can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, so all are welcome to join!
